Job Summary: The intern will work towards ReImagine17’s vision to increase youth engagement with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and build capacity for SDG action within post-secondary campuses across Canada. The intern will be primarily responsible for coordinating ReImagine17’s ReMobilization program, designed to develop accessible SDG leadership programming and facilitate collaboration among existing student-led SDG Alliances at Canadian post-secondary institutions. The intern will also develop a component of the ReMobilization program designed to supports students in establishing an SDG Alliance on their own campus.
The intern will also have an opportunity to allocate a number of their hours each week to support one of five
secondary project teams ("Pods"):
Reimagination (Research and Innovation)
Co-lead the ReMobilization pod, including facilitating team meetings and taking an active role in project planning, implementation, and reporting.
Stay up-to-date on the general landscape of youth-led SDG action, with a specific focus on student-led SDG initiatives at Canadian post-secondary institutions.
Coordinate relationships between new and existing SDG Alliances, such as facilitating collaborations and organizing virtual events/mixers.
Develop workshop programming to supporting the creation of new student SDG Alliances.
Develop resources to align with workshop programming including, but not limited to: checklists, templates, planning guides etc.
Work with the Resource Coordinator to identify impact metrics of note and incorporate these into ReMobilization workshops and programming for establishing Alliances.
Develop partnerships with administration, staff, and/or faculty at post-secondary institutions to further shared goals.
Identify potential stakeholders and promote ReImagine17’s programming to these potential partners to expand our network of contacts.
Work with the Communications Pod to develop content to promote the RE17 Toolkit and ReMobilization program including relevant benefits, program details, and timelines.
Identify strategies to further disseminate the SDG Alliance Toolkit.
Interest in and understanding of the SGDs, particularly in a youth or post-secondary context.
Interest in making resources available and accessible to all populations; incorporating EDI principles into program development.
Experience in program development and/or event planning including experience presenting and facilitating events.
Strong organization and problem-solving skills.
Strong verbal and written communication skills including the ability to negotiate and balance multiple stakeholder interests.
Demonstrates creativity, flexibility, and willingness to learn and can identify potential areas of improvement in programming.
Ability to work independently for specific action items and collaboratively with other Pod members for joint projects.
Familiarity with online collaboration tools and videoconferencing software is an asset.
Previous experience engaging with non-profit organizations and their structures an asset.
Training and Skills Development Opportunities:
As an employee of ReImagine17, 80% of an intern’s time will be focused on their main position and another 20% will be dedicated to their professional and personal interests as relevant to the work of RE17. At the beginning of the contract period, interns will have a kick-off meeting with their supervisor to discuss intentions, expectations, and the scope of their internship work plan. ReImagine17 is committed to helping youth further develop their skills through dedicated training sessions and our flexible pods structure. During their time with RE17, interns will develop strong interpersonal communication skills, a “moonshot thinking” approach, and a strong sense of self-determination.
